This record came out of a casual email exchange with my old friend Micheal Simon. I'd been itching to get Able Mobile mobile again, so when I offered to be Rudy Van Gelder to his Creed Taylor, he ran with it. Before we knew it the cats were loading into his Chelsea apartment and the glasses-to-be-clinked in the background filled. A couple of hours later it was in the can.

I've been enamored of this type of jazz party record since I first discovered my parent's reel-to-reel copy of The Ramsey Lewis Trio's "The 'In' Crowd," listening to it late into the night on my Koss Red Devils and imagining a Hefneresque scene. I tried to recreate that vibe best I could, and it was a total gas to record great musicians like Hal, Dezron, and Darrell in this loose setting.

Amid a steller set, I think this tune is a standout.
